About this place
At Tsukiji, Viennese coffee pairs the bitterness of coffee with the mellow richness of cream. Visitors describe the smooth cream as adding richness to the coffee’s bittersweet flavour. The menu also includes café au lait, served hot or iced, and teas from Fortnum & Mason.
For something to eat with your coffee, visitors have praised the mousse cake’s light texture, with tart pineapple providing a bright accent. Some enjoyed it with berry sauce for a refreshing contrast; another visitor noted the sauce’s sweet-and-sour flavour on the plate. Chocolate cake, cheesecake and fruit tart are also on the menu, offering plenty of ways to pair coffee and cake. One visitor recalled that the generous fruit topping on the old-fashioned tart went particularly well with iced coffee.
If you’re in the mood to make dessert the main event, options include a coffee float, tea float or mixed float. Tea choices include Ceylon as well as Fortnum & Mason; the menu also lists iced tea, available only in summer, and cocoa served hot or iced.
Visitors have remarked on the classical music playing inside and the antique-style furniture. Some report that smoking is permitted, so this may be worth bearing in mind if you are sensitive to smoke. The café is on Komeya-cho, north of Shijo on Kawaramachi-dori. Its listed hours are daily from 11:00 to 17:00. Cash only.
